Crayolatones

The challenge: Create a website for Crayolatones that brings the nostalgic whimsy of childhood with the realistic modesty of adulthood.

Case study

I realized that I couldn't buy a minimalist poster for the famous Crayola color Macaroni and Cheese online. That made me mad, so I made them myself, combining the design of Pantone color chips with the main 106 colors Crayola provides.

If I weren't afraid of being sued, I would have sent various TikTok micro-influencers their favorite Crayolatone of choice, and had them make a short video posted to their account saying why that's their color.

A central theme of Crayolatones is acceptance. That's why 10% of every dollar earned is donated to the Trevor Project. Here's what the copy says:

"If you're homophobic, transphobic, or really any sort of -phobic, you don't belong here. Our logo is rainbow every day of the year.

Simply put, The Trevor Project's mission is to end suicide among LGBTQ young people. Click to read their mission statement."

People hate mailing lists, so how do we stay in consumers' minds while not annoying them? Give them free literature—100 words, once a day, with the promise of no spam, ever. After they've received the full book, they get a personalized link to three free posters of their choice.

The best part? It costs nothing--The Picture of Dorian Gray is already in the public domain.
